“First things first: there is no need to worry! Although Colombia experienced a period of violence in the 1990s, it has since transformed into a vibrant and prosperous destination, where tourism is booming, yet its authenticity remains beautifully preserved.

As with any travel destination, some basic common-sense rules apply: avoid accepting offers from strangers, don't display large amounts of money in public, and always keep an eye on your personal belongings.

For your peace of mind, we recommend using only Uber to get around major cities, instead of public taxis, or booking transportation directly with your hotel. Uber operates in some cities despite being technically illegal. In cheaper options like “UberX,” drivers often ask you to sit in the front to avoid attracting police attention. In categories like “Comfort” or “Premium,” you can sit in the back without any problem.
